Wow, that didn’t take long! Yesterday Google gave a sneak peak at the long fabled Chrome OS (which will be released sometime in 2010). However under the now open sourced code you can run the Chrome OS in a virtual machine (either VMWare or Vitrual Box.

All you need to do is create a gdgt account and download the file at the following link.

1.) To use the vmdk file, open VMware and create a new virtual machine. One of the options will be to use an “existing virtual disk.” (In VMware Fusion, this is the last option below, “use operating system disk” and “use OS disc image file.”)
2.) Make sure your VM is set to use bridged networking, rather than NAT.
2.) The username and password to login to Chrome OS / Chromium OS is your google account!

Alternatively, if you don’t have VMware, some users have had luck getting this image to run using VirtualBox, which is a free cross-platform (Windows / Mac / Linux) virtual machine created by Sun Microsystem. You can download VirtualBox here:
http://www.virtualbox.org/

No, all the features don;t work and you won’t see the fabled 7 second boot time but if you need to be on the bleeding edge, this just may quench your thirst!

So you like Apple’s fancy Magic Mouse? Its a beautiful piece of engineering with an insane price tag of $70. Problem is, even at $70, it only works on Macs leaving Windows users in the dust. But thanks to a hidden update here is how you get this little guy to work in Windows XP (32 bit) to Windows 7.

Thanks to a little hackery from Apple’s Bluetooth Update (located here) the Magic Mouses driver was extracted via WinRar resulting in a 32bit version and a 64bit version that you can install on any ordinary Windows PC that will enable all the scrolling ‘magic’ of the Magic Mouse.

X-Flex wallpaper is made from a “Kevlar-like material” (Kevlar itself being a trademark of DuPont, in case you were wondering) sandwiched between an elastic polymer wrap. It’s lightweight, portable, and a cinch to install relative to the protection it offers: you just peel off the back, stick it to the wall, and bolt it to the ceiling and floor and you’re done. You can even wallpaper or paint over it if you don’t like the color.

Why you would need this is beyond me, but to say you home is actually bomb proof is kinda cool.

AT&T isn’t taking Verizon slamming of their network lightly.

T-Mobile said Wednesday it will sell a pay-in-advance BlackBerry smartphone that doesn’t require a contract or credit check.

The BlackBerry Curve 8520 is one of the four handsets offered through the Bellevue, Wash.-based carrier’s new T-Mobile Complete package. The kits start at $59.99, which includes the first month of service, and customers will have their choice of voice, text and data plans starting at $50 a month.

Not bad for $50 a month. Seems like T-Mobile is playing catchup to MetroPCS which already offers a $50 unlimited Blackberry plan but requires a contract. All in all I think this is a win for consumers that a Blackberry is so prevalent that it can now be a prepaid phone.

So you use Windows 7 or Vista and you have encountered the now famous “Reduced Functionality Mode.” You can either throw up your arms and cry or bypass it and get to your data.

Here is how to temporarily remove the “Reduced Functionality” mode and resture your computer back to a (semi) normal state.

On the Windows Activation, click on Access your computer with reduced functionality option.

Once the Internet Explorer loads, click on File on menu bar and then select Open on the pull-down menu.

On the Open dialog window, type in C:\Windows\Explorer.exe and then click OK.

Click OK button on “IE needs to open a new window to open this webpage” confirmation prompt.

Click Run button on “File Download – Security Warning” dialog prompt.

Click on Run button on “File Download – Security Warning” warning dialog related to unknown and not verified publisher.

User shell will load, and the desktop, taskbar, start menu and etc will be restored.

The computer has recovered from Reduced Functionality for this session. To permanently stop RFM to happen again, Windows has to be rearmed.

Click on the Windows Start button.

Type Cmd in Start Search box.

A program shortcut will show up in the Start panel search results. Right click on the shortcut and select Run as Administrator.

In the Command Prompt window, type in the following command and then hit Enter: slmgr.vbs -rearm

Restart your computer.

Now obviously something must have went awry for that dialog box to pop up, any I think it would be recommended that you reinstall Windows after you backup all your data.
